A 1980s Formula 1 photographer, Henry Pang, sees his work printed for the first time, thanks to his son, Jeffrey, a popular car drifting YouTuber. Henry's photos capture the sport's glorious era, featuring Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost's legendary rivalry. Jeffrey wanted to print his dad's photos, but faced a challenge: the slides were designed for magazine printing, not standalone prints. Henry explains that in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, press printing was called color separation, requiring positive prints, which are transparencies or slides. To print his dad's work, Jeffrey had to scan the slides, but the materials for direct printing were discontinued. He tried a flatbed scanner but got poor results. Henry, a photography expert, suggested using a 36-megapixel Nikon D800 to improve resolution. With a macro lens, slide holder, copy stand, external shutter release, lightbox, and extension tube, Henry achieved better scans. The process, though time-consuming, produced high-quality results, revealing details like air disturbance around the car. Jeffrey then visited a film lab in Toronto for chromogenic printing, using light-sensitive paper exposed by an enlarger. Despite not being a photographer, Jeffrey was thrilled with the prints and enjoyed sharing the outcome with his dad.
