Love truly does find a way, even in the most unexpected places! Just ask Jenny and Colin, whose love story began amidst the sweet aroma of Jammie Dodgers at the Fox's Burton's factory in Cwmbran.
With a production line that churns out an impressive 4.4 billion biscuits annually, including the iconic Jammie Dodgers with their signature love heart design, it's no wonder romance blossomed.
Jenny, now 62, started her journey at the Llantarnam factory in 1990, with Colin, 55, joining a year later. Among the bustling 700-strong workforce, it took some time for their paths to cross, but when they did, it was love at first sight.
Jenny recalls, "I remember seeing Colin around the factory. My job involved weight checks on all the lines, and it was during the Jammie Dodger checks that we first connected. We hit it off instantly, and I looked forward to our chats. I even timed my weight checks to coincide with his shifts!"
Their first date, an Italian dinner in Cardiff, was a delightful mix of getting to know each other and, of course, discussing their favorite biscuit. "I can't recall the exact conversations, but Jammie Dodgers were definitely a topic!" Jenny added with a laugh.
The couple's love story progressed swiftly, leading to marriage within a couple of years and the birth of two children. Despite living and working together for 25 years, their romance remains as strong as ever.
"A happy wife, a happy life, and Colin ensures that!" Jenny jokes. "Our life has been filled with mischief and laughter, and that's all that matters."
Even though they no longer work the same shift, the factory holds a special place in their hearts. "It's wonderful to be part of the team that began our love story and to continue making those love-heart-shaped biscuits," Jenny shared.
Rebecca Phillips, the factory's general manager, commented, "It's a beautiful reminder that the sweetest stories can start in the most unexpected places."
Colin added, "We never imagined work would lead us to each other. The factory has become an integral part of our lives and our family's story. We're fortunate to enjoy working together."
A heartwarming tale, indeed! But here's the twist: could working together be a recipe for success or a potential challenge for some couples? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
